I hope you give at least one of these recipes a try! I’d love to hear your thoughts, and if you’ve already tried them, what was your experience? Let me know!

Now let me explain about Shampoos and conditioners.

i personally never use anything on my hair that contains Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, this is not medical advice, its my personal preference. below gives an explanation to why i prefer not to use products that contain SLS.

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) is a chemical compound commonly found in a variety of personal care products, including shampoos, soaps, and toothpaste. It’s a type of surfactant, which means it helps products to lather and foam by lowering the surface tension between ingredients. This is why your shampoo foams up nicely when you lather it into your hair.

While SLS is effective at cleaning by removing dirt and oil from the hair and scalp, it can also have some negative effects, especially with frequent use:

  1. Strips Natural Oils: SLS is a strong cleanser that can strip away the natural oils from your scalp and hair. While it's good at removing dirt and grease, it can also take away the protective oils your scalp produces, leading to dry, brittle hair and a flaky scalp.

  2. Causes Dryness and Frizz: Without natural oils to keep your hair moisturized, you might notice that your hair becomes dry, frizzy, and more prone to breakage. This is particularly problematic for those with curly, wavy, or color-treated hair, as these hair types are already more prone to dryness.

  3. Can Irritate the Scalp: SLS can be harsh on the scalp, especially for people with sensitive skin or existing conditions like eczema or psoriasis. It may cause irritation, redness, itching, and even lead to scalp inflammation.

  4. Fades Hair Color: If you have color-treated hair, SLS can cause your color to fade faster. Because it strips away oils and other residues, it can also strip away the color molecules that make your hair dye last.

  5. Potential for Allergic Reactions: Some people may experience allergic reactions to SLS, such as rashes, itching, or hives. Even if you don’t have a full-blown allergy, you might find that your scalp becomes more sensitive over time with continued use of SLS-containing products.

  6. Hair Loss: SLS can also cause hair loss in some people.

Should You Avoid SLS?

Given the potential downsides, many people choose to avoid SLS in their hair care products, especially if they have dry, curly, or color-treated hair, or if they suffer from scalp sensitivities. There are plenty of SLS-free shampoos and conditioners on the market that use gentler surfactants or natural ingredients to cleanse without stripping your hair of its essential moisture. Switching to these products can help maintain healthier, shinier, and less irritated hair and scalp.

Take care x
